Axtra was the very first place to throw axes in the city of Zürich. Since we started in 2018, we have become the #1 ranked game on TripAdvisor with over 2,000 five-star reviews! Even during the tough years of COVID, we stayed strong by taking amazing care of our guests. We are proud to be the most fun and sustainable activity in the city.
We want to help people step away from AI and computer screens to do something real with their hands. Throwing an axe is a “primal” and exciting way to show what you are capable of doing. Our goal is to give you an unforgettable experience that you and your friends will talk about for weeks!

FAQ: The Axtra Experience
How does an axe throwing session work at Axtra?
At Axtra, we make sure every session is safe, organized, and full of adrenaline. Your experience starts with a warm welcome, a safety video, and signing our waiver. Next, your personal coach will teach you the best techniques to throw an axe safely and accurately. Once you have mastered the basics, you will use our tablets to play 13 different interactive games projected right onto the targets. Finally, your group will compete in a thrilling tournament to find the ultimate champion.
How does the Axe Making workshop work?
Our Axe Making workshop is a hands-on crafting experience where you build your own souvenir. You do not forge the metal head yourself (it is pre-made for quality). Instead, you will learn how to fit a custom handle to the axe head, sharpen the blade, and use fire and oil to finish the wood. It is the perfect mix of craftsmanship and fun. If you book the “Making & Throwing” combo, you can even use your new axe on the lanes!

We are the only axe throwing venue in Zürich designed to keep large groups together. We can host up to 50 players in a single open space, so your team is never split into different rooms. This means everyone plays, cheers, and interacts together for the entire event. We specialize in corporate bonding, ensuring a safe and high-energy environment for every colleague.
What makes your interactive games different?
Unlike standard target practice, we use advanced technology to project 13 different games directly onto the wood. You control everything from a tablet at your lane. You can play standard bullseye games, Tic-Tac-Toe, Connect Four, and zombie-hunting challenges. It keeps the action fast and exciting for everyone, even if you have never thrown an axe before.
Booking & Logistics
Do you have a cancellation policy
Yes, we do. To receive a refund or reschedule your session, you must contact us at least 48 hours before your booking starts. This rule applies to all group sizes. Unfortunately, if you cancel with less than 48 hours’ notice, we cannot offer a refund or a new slot.
Can I book a session for today?
Yes, last-minute bookings are possible if we have space! The best way to check is to look at our online booking calendar. If a time slot is clickable, it is available. We highly recommend booking online in advance to guarantee your spot, as weekends and evenings fill up very fast.
What happens if I need to change the number of players
We understand that plans change. If you need to add or remove players, please contact us via our form as soon as possible. We are flexible, but we strictly limit the number of players per lane to ensure everyone gets plenty of throwing time. Please let us know early so we can adjust your setup.
Safety & Requirements
Is axe throwing safe for beginners?
Absolutely. Safety is our number one priority. We never leave you alone on the lanes—our expert coaches are always present to supervise and guide you. Our axes and lanes are built to strict safety standards. As long as you follow the coach’s instructions, it is a perfectly safe activity for everyone.
What clothing and shoes should I wear?
For safety, closed-toe shoes are mandatory. You cannot throw axes in sandals, flip-flops, or heels. We also recommend wearing comfortable, flat shoes and a loose shirt so you can swing your arms easily. Costumes are highly encouraged for bachelor parties and birthdays—we love seeing fun outfits!
Is there an age limit for participants?
Yes. All players must be at least 12 years old. For safety reasons, anyone between the ages of 12 and 16 must be accompanied by a guardian who is over 18. We verify ages to ensure a safe environment for all our guests.
Booking & Logistics
Where is Axtra located and is there parking?
We are located in Zürich Oerlikon. The best way to reach us is by public transport; the “Salersteig” tram stop is just a 2-minute walk away, and Oerlikon train station is an 8–10 minute walk. We do not have on-site parking for customers. If you drive, please use the “Parkhaus Dorflinde” parking garage, which is just a short walk from our venue.
Can we bring our own food and drinks?
No, we do not allow outside food or beverages. We have a bar on-site that sells a variety of soft drinks, beer, and snacks. Important: For safety reasons, you are not allowed to consume alcohol before your throwing session. You can enjoy a celebratory drink after you are done throwing.
Are spectators and dogs allowed?
Yes to both! Friends who do not want to throw can watch and cheer for free. We are also very dog-friendly. Well-behaved dogs are welcome to join you, provided they are clean and do not disturb other guests.
